I’ve been noticing something strange since AI tools became part of my daily routine. at first it felt like a superpower. like need an explanation of something? Ask AI. need to write something? Ask AI. need to brainstorm ideas? Ask AI. but after a few months now i realized something. sometimes i don’t even try to think about the problem first anymore. my first instinct is just: “let me ask the AI.” and i started wondering if anyone else has experienced this shift. There’s actually research suggesting this might be happening more broadly. when people rely heavily on AI tools, they tend to “offload” thinking to the system instead of processing the problem themselves, which can reduce critical thinking over time. even some AI researchers say the same thing that AI can make you much smarter or make you mentally lazy depending on how you use it. the weird part is that AI isn’t just another tool like Google. It doesn’t just give information. It gives finished answers. and finished answers can quietly replace the thinking process. So now i try a small rule that before asking AI, i force myself to think about the problem for at least a minute or 2 min but aleast think for it. sometimes my answer is worse , sometimes it’s better. but it keeps my brain in the loop. what do you feel like AI is making you think more… or think less? submitted by /u/Interesting_Mine_400
