I’m almost never did when I was younger, my dad frequently did and I felt it was embarrassing and made us look like ass holes. Now that I’m older my mindset has changed to “if I’m paying for a service, I should receive what I paid for”. Friday night my girlfriend and I went to an Italian place for dinner, we were seated in a back room and the hostess said “oh by the way, there will be an art gallery showing going on back here tonight but it shouldn’t be crowded”. There were so many people walking all over the place, in between the tables, one woman accidentally smacked my girlfriend in the head with her elbow. The food was phenomenal but it really put a damper on the night. We both work in sales and every time we host an event we rent an entire room out. So I spoke to the server and let him know I wasn’t happy about it and he got the manager for me, I asked why they would even sit us back here and he goes “well all the tables in the front room were full and we didn’t think the art gallery would be this busy”. I told him we would’ve happily waited at the bar for a normal table, the food was excellent, but sitting back there during a crowded art gallery was ridiculous. He asked if we paid our check yet, had a beer, she had a glass of wine, and I said taking that off would be fine, which he did. I left a good tip and let them know we’d definitely come again because the food was great. If I get served a flat, I just return it, I don’t chug 75% and ask for a whole new beer. If I get put in a handicap hotel room or a split room, I ask for a different room. A few weeks ago I was waiting for a takeout order, I waited 20mins (no big deal) and they didn’t charge me for a beer, then another 25min for a total of 45min, turns out they were working on DoorDash orders, they ended up giving me my meal for free and a voucher for another meal. submitted by /u/gamerdudeNYC
