With the latest membership increase, Old School RuneScape is now tied with World of Warcraft as the second most expensive MMO subscription , sitting around $14.99/month . The only major MMO that costs more is EVE Online (~$19.99/month) . That alone might not sound outrageous, except when you look at how these games structure their subscriptions. Character access comparison World of Warcraft ~$14.99/month Up to ~50 characters per account Final Fantasy XIV ~$13.99–$14.99/month Multiple characters per account Every class can be played on a single character EVE Online ~$19.99/month Multiple characters per account The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO Plus) ~$14.99/month Multiple characters per account Star Wars: The Old Republic ~$14.99/month Multiple characters per account DC Universe Online ~$14.99/month Multiple characters per account Old School RuneScape ~$14.99/month One character per subscription This is where the comparison really starts to fall apart. Most MMOs charge a subscription per account , not per character . In OSRS, if you want to play: a main an ironman a group ironman a PvP account or any kind of alt You need another full subscription for every single one . The multi-account premium Jagex already gets OSRS has one of the strongest multi-account cultures in any MMO. Many players run multiple accounts for different modes or builds. Example monthly costs now: 1 account = $14.99 2 accounts = $29.98 3 accounts = $44.97 In my case, I run three accounts , which now totals $44.97/month . That is over $539 per year for one game. Meanwhile a WoW or FFXIV player with 10 characters still pays $14.99 total . So even before this increase, Jagex was already receiving a massive premium from players who enjoy multiple account types . The issue is not just the price The problem is the value structure . If OSRS subscriptions were account-wide , this increase would be much easier to justify. But increasing the price while still charging per character pushes OSRS into one of the most expensive MMO ecosystems for dedicated players. My response Because of this change I will be cancelling all three of my memberships , which totals $44.97/month . That is over $500 a year . I enjoy the game and would happily continue supporting it, but this pricing model needs a serious discussion . Charging the same price as the biggest MMOs while locking subscriptions to individual characters simply does not feel reasonable anymore. Until we see meaningful discussion around this issue, I will not be renewing my memberships. submitted by /u/Alexofbulgaria
