Up until a week ago, Jagex did the unthinkable. They recovered their image and genuinely created a sense of optimism about the future of both Runescape 3 and OSRS. Even the previous price-hike had it’s fair defenders, and given that inflation had taken it’s toll, even the people who didn’t like it could ultimately get over it. This… is different. It legitimately feels like the price-hike is the result of a deal with the devil coming to take his dues. I know the argument could be “Well yeah, new features cost more money, you don’t get something for nothing”. But that’s the thing, we are already paying more, and there are even more players now. And raising the costs to offset their success is a slap in the face. Ontop of that, it feels like Jagex has lost it’s damn mind. The unspoken golden rule has always been “Never cost as much as World of Warcraft”. That rule is now broken, I’m cancelling my sub and making multiple characters on WoW. With any luck Jagex will get sold to the lowest bidder, maybe Amazon Studios can pick it up, make it free to play, and close the game for good a year later when no one wants to play. submitted by /u/valdev
