I work in the investment industry and am very familiar with both of the funds that currently own Jagex, CVC and Haveli. Haveli in particular is founded and run by a long time Vista Equity partners exec, Brian Sheth, who has made his money by cost cutting, raising prices and optimizing portfolio companies (largely at the expense of growth and the employees (excluding management who have large exec comp plans tied to the next exit)). I know we are all angry about the recent price changes, but we do have power. This is a community game and the community is the power. We all come from different incomes and walks of life and for many this may be such a small impact to us from an income perspective but for others it is material. CVC and Haveli ran the math - even with nominal attrition from the price cuts they will still make more money because of it. They don’t care about the people it hurts just their bottom line and what that means for their eventual exit (when they sell the company again to a new owner) But here is the thing WE can change this. WE can change the owners from putting profit before innovation in this game we all love. I will be 100% honest, the price increase is so small it doesn’t impact me. But it impacts this community I am part of and if we had an enough global support where we all either went and plaid free for a couple months or just another game for another couple months, we could deal a real hit to the private equity overlords. Not only would it hurt the value of their investment. As I said I work in the investment industry and no investment committee will want to make a future investment/purchase of jagex if the community of people who play the game can decide to take control and influence over the game, it’s too high of risk and will limit their future investor appetite. This changes the profile of the company away from being thought solely as an investment to one where they want to partner closely as they will be afraid to lose hundreds of millions of dollars of invested capital. At the same time we can use this to agitate for better pay packages for our loved JMODs and jagex developers and to focus development in the real areas of the game we love (and not subsidize the rs3 shit hole) It’s now your decision, do you want to take a little near term pain for the long-term gain? As I said I am fortunate enough that the price doesn’t matter, but if the community supports it at large enough scale I know others like myself will stand with the community that we all love. Should we all take a couple months off together? Just my two cents while I’m rotting away at my desk. Love you all submitted by /u/SubstantialElk7883
