Hello everyone, I have a question about the typical length of a Swiss-style work certificate (Arbeitszeugnis) and how detailed it is expected to be. I currently work in Canada (in a public-sector research institution), and I recently drafted a work certificate with my employer summarizing my role, responsibilities, and a few achievements. The document ended up being close to two pages (770 words) . However, my employer felt that this was too long and suggested shortening it, since, at least in Canada, reference letters are usually closer to one page . The reason I am asking here is that I am interested in working in Switzerland in the future, and I understand that Swiss employment certificates often follow somewhat different conventions and expectations compared to North America. From what I have read, Swiss certificates typically include: the employment period and job title a description of duties an evaluation of performance and conduct sometimes examples of contributions or achievements But I am unsure about the expected length in practice . So my questions are: Is two pages considered excessive for a work certificate in Switzerland? What is the typical length employers expect (e.g., one page, 1–1.5 pages, etc.)? Does the expected length depend on seniority or complexity of the role ? For context, the document in question describes a role that included research support services, litigation-related coordination duties, and participation in a couple system modernization projects. I would appreciate hearing from people familiar with Swiss hiring practices or who have received or issued an Arbeitszeugnis. Thanks very much for your insights! submitted by /u/Flanderns
