Hello, I hope to benefit from the experience of people living in apartments in Switzerland that have barely any soundproofing at all… (And I’m sorry you have to go through that as well…). We moved to a new apartment that is unbearable: we hear every step of the neighbours above, when they shower every room in our apartment hears it with an echo, we hear them singing, moving their chairs, tables etc constantly. Conversations are more muffled, but still audible. To make things worse, the windows to the street are paper-thin, probably of a very old generation and sometimes we feel like we live on the balcony and there is no soundproofinf from the street as well, so that we wake up very early. And one mistake is fully on us: there is a sliding door between 2 rooms, which means basically we have one big playroom (we have a toddler) instead of a bedroom & living room. No idea how to isolate that, I’m willing to put closets in front on the bedroom side but unsure how much that’d help. Whenever I search Claude for solutions, I either get suggestions about things one can improve on a building level (which I try to exclude from the start, but he sort of insists those are the best) or that are not available in Switzerland (e.g. magnetic double glazing of windows). Curtains with soundproofing functions seem to cost a fortune, so I am asking: what have you done, as a renter, to make living in such an apartment bearable? What soundproofing products, techniques for any of the described issues helped you improve the situation? (I intend to move out - again - but I won’t find anything from one day to another so I need to live/sleep until then). submitted by /u/Sure-Dimension-4000
