So me (23M) and my girlfriend (22F) did a small experiment out of curiosity and the results honestly surprised us. We made a fake account pretending to be a woman. Just to clarify, the pictures were AI-generated, so no real person was used. The profile itself was pretty normal and not overly suggestive. Within an hour we had over 100 message requests. When I replied to a few people just to see where the conversation would go, most of them started with normal questions like “are you single?”. When I said yes, the conversations escalated really quickly. A lot of them immediately started asking things like: “Will you be my girlfriend?” “Do you want to be more than friends?” “Maybe we could be FWB?” This was happening within just a few messages, even though they didn’t know anything about the person behind the account. Why are so many men online so quick to jump into that kind of desperation or attachment with someone they’ve never even spoken to before? I’m not posting this to shame anyone. I’m genuinely curious about the psychology behind it. It honestly made us wonder what’s driving this kind of behavior online. So I’m curious to hear perspectives from both sides: Men: What do you think causes this? Women: Is this something you experience often when interacting with men online?
