I’m trying to learn tmux because it seems essential for being productive with Claude Code, but the experience has been really frustrating. Basic things like splitting the terminal don’t work out of the box on my Mac — the default keyboard shortcuts don’t register, and even right-clicking gives me a menu that vanishes before I can use it. I’ve spent hours just trying to get the basics working and I’ve failed and i know less than i started with. Do I actually need tmux to be productive with Claude Code, or are there simpler alternatives? For example, can I just use VS Code’s built-in terminal splits with a Claude Code instance in each one? And if tmux really is worth learning, is the learning curve always this painful? submitted by /u/Sufficient-Year4640
