For laypersons who want to understand how AI works, I tell this little story. It comes from a skit I saw on television as a kid (I’m 63). Little old lady is next to a tree. She’s peering up the tree trying to get her cat down. The cat will not come down. A police officer wanders by. The little old lady asks for help. The cop pulls his pistol and shoots the cat. The cats corpse falls to the ground. That’s AI. Nobody said anything about the cat being alive, nobody said anything about the little old lady being happy, nobody said anything about the use of guns. AI will accomplish a task. But unless you’re exceptionally clear on how you want that task accomplished, you may be unhappy with the results submitted by /u/gamename
