Hi everyone. I moved out of my apartment in Basel in mid-October 2025 (my contract ran until end of October, but I left two weeks early). Since then, I’ve been trying to get my deposit back from the Sperrkonto. When I first asked the landlord to sign the bank release form back in October, he told me we had to wait until February 2026 to receive the Nebenkosten Abrechnung (utility billing statement) before he could sign. Now February 2026 has come around, and he’s changed his tune. Apparently the energy company’s billing only covers up to end of September 2025, and since I moved out in October, that final month’s billing won’t arrive until February 2027, so that would be 1.5 years after my move out date! Is this normal in Switzerland or am I just crazy? Am I legally entitled to get the deposit back sooner?
