I’ve always figured that as long as you’re both adults, then your age +/- 15-20% is about right. Any younger than my age -20% and I feel like I’m talking to someone who is in a completely different place in life. And yeah I mean I’ve been hit on by women in their early 20s and it’s a confidence boost for sure, but I’m almost 40 and the idea of doing something with them seems just gross. They still have baby fat and their brains are still developing. It’s legal, sure, but I think we all know that legality and morality are not the same thing. I see people in this sub constantly defending dating someone much younger. “As long as you’re both adults” gets tossed around a lot. Really? So if you’re 38 and she’s 19, it’s fine because she’s an adult? Come on. Again, legally yes you can’t be charged with a crime for it, but that doesn’t mean that you should do that. I will say that I think once someone is 25-30, then there can be exceptions for someone who is your age -20%. That person is much more developed than a 22 year old, and likely has built her own life with a place to live and a job, as well as the more developed brain. If you’re 35 and you’re dating a 26 year old, that’s outside your age -20%, but if you have a real connection then I’d say that this is fine. Exceptions are reasonable. But if she’s 24 and you’re 35, no I can’t say that I’d think that’s ok because “age is just a number” or “you’re both adults.” I’d probably think you’re a bit intellectually or emotionally stunted. submitted by /u/Sudden_Doughnut_8741
