The job market has been very difficult for a while now, especially for people who do not speak German fluently. What I find hard to understand is how employers can overlook candidates with excellent qualifications and strong communication skills simply because they only speak English. Even those who are making a real effort to learn German and improve step by step often do not seem to have a fair chance. There is so much emphasis on integration, yet applications are still rejected unless someone speaks the language perfectly. That contradiction is hard to make sense of. A shift toward being less international and more national can only go so far. In many ways, it feels as though we are moving backwards instead of becoming more open, welcoming, and progressive. It is a real shame. People who have built their lives here may end up having to leave purely because of a language requirement, even when they are an excellent fit in every other respect. All I can feel is deep disappointment with the system. submitted by /u/juuulsz_
