This is not a compliant, if I have anybody to blame for what happened to me, it’s myself. The story is also quite embarrassing, so I don’t want to tell my family, I tell it to you. So Sunday I (48M) went to a concert at Volkshaus, downtown Zürich. I met some friends I haven’t seen for a long time and I have to admit I drank more than what you’d call civilized recreation. After the show, around midnight I left the place alone, heading towards the Main Station. I’m not that familiar in Zürich and was drunken so I couldn’t easily find my way, rather I was wandering around in the streets. I stopped at a spot to try to figure out where I was when a group stopped by. 4-5 of them, mixed origins, I don’t remember. I felt one of them reaching into the pocket of my coat where my wallet was. I quickly grabbed my wallet and crouched to protect all my pockets. They demanded money or cigarettes. I had a full pack of cigarettes with me, so I passed it to one of the guys. Then they demanded money. I started to shout “I gave you cigarettes, fck off now!” and slowly stood up. One of them, a girl kept insisting that I give them money, I kept shouting to fck off and leave me alone. The guy I gave the cigarettes to, seemed to be the leader, called off the girl in Swiss German and they stepped away. I immediately walked away in the opposite direction and only stopped after like 10 minutes to get my shit together and find the main station. It wasn’t too brave how I handled this situation, but I’m a peaceful guy, no experience in fighting and they were in numerical superiority. So I guess I was lucky that I got away with the loss a pack of cigarettes only. I am a little bit surprised (or disappointed?) though, that this can happen in Zürich. I know it’s a big city and maybe I was a bit idealistic about Swiss public safety, but still. Take care folks and don’t get too wasted! submitted by /u/Particular-Bridge106
