I’m 48F, and I’ve noticed a very specific phenomenon with the men in my life. It seems like right around age 35-40, a switch flips in the male brain and you guys just have to master something highly specific. For my husband, it was smoking meat. He spent three entire months watching YouTube videos about wood types and airflow. He bought a dedicated notebook just to log internal temperatures. The man is an accountant, but suddenly he’s treating a brisket like a high-stakes science project. My brother-in-law did the exact same thing, but with restoring vintage axes. Is this a universal male gene that activates in middle age? What is your bizarre, hyper-specific midlife obsession, and why are you so intense about it? submitted by /u/Admirable-Pin-298
