Lets talk about Cannonball Smithing. Why does 1 Metal bar only make 4 Cannonballs for Sailing? Firstly no one should ever be making Steel Cannonballs for Sailing use as they are much more worthwhile being used for the Dwarf Cannon. And imo Steel Cannonballs should be renamed to Dwarf Cannonballs and then have Sailing cannonballs be different (and smaller looking too imo which would make sense why they make more per bar). Secondly for the time and cost, no one should be making Cannonballs below Mithril as you’re probably just better off buying them directly from the Cannonball Shop. So this just leaves Adamant and Rune Cannonballs. Adamantite bars cost 2k gp each, making each Cannonball cost 500gp. Runite bars cost 12k gp each, making each Cannonball cost 3k. When it comes to Range Ammunition, each bar makes 15 Arrowheads each and still are rarely created because it just doesn’t often feel worthwhile when they can be bought from shops instead. I know Jagex has spoken about changing bar to make 8 Cannonballs but it just has to be way more than this. At a very minimum, 15 per bar imo and even then, I probably wouldn’t be wasting bars to make them (as an Ironman; as a Main I just buy them from the GE so we will ignore this for now). And as an Ironman, Metal Bars come in limited supply so even at 15 Cannonballs per bar, you wouldn’t be able to make thousands and thousands as even end-game irons don’t have access to that many bars. I haven’t tried Sailing combat since the latest update so idk how it feels now with the slower shots and more cannonballs saved due to the attractor but from pre-update I genuinely wouldn’t have even felt like it was out of place if each bar made 30 or 50 cannonballs. Remember, Sailing is just 1 skill in Runescape and every Metal Bars you ever obtain shouldn’t be spent just making Cannonballs for ship combat. The cost and upkeep of cannonballs makes ship combat feel so stupid; I genuinely wish there was some type of Melee Combat you could use on ships such as ramming your boat into enemies or a giant spear. I know this is controversial but I wouldn’t even be mad if Sailing Cannonballs were so easily obtainable that they barely felt like a resource… having to train the skill and upgrade your boat is big enough of a preparation that you then deserve to just go and kill things out at sea for little to no cost imo… (but I understand this may be an extremely hot take). Side Note: The removal of the Damage Cap on non-cannons was a mistake imo. Now it has me thinking “I should just wait until I own BIS Mage gear (shadow) before doing anymore ship combat”. I genuinely think suggestions like making Seabane weapons like this would’ve been a much better solution.
