Just came back from a week of skiing in Switzerland this February and thought I’d share a few practical things that surprised me a bit. I stayed around the Jungfrau region (mostly skiing near Grindelwald and Wengen). Snow conditions were actually pretty great for February, a mix of sunny days and a couple of powder days. The views were honestly ridiculous. Every time you get off the lift it feels like a postcard. A few things I didn’t fully expect before going: Everything runs extremely on time Trains, cable cars, gondolas - it all connects like clockwork. I stayed in Interlaken and getting to the slopes every morning by train + gondola was way easier than driving. Ski areas are huge If you’re used to smaller resorts, the linked ski areas here are massive. I skied for 5 days and still didn’t cover everything. Mobile signal is surprisingly good on the mountains I needed data mostly for maps, checking weather, and messaging friends to meet up. I used an eSIM instead of my home carrier roaming. I tried the Redteago Alps Snow Pass plan. It supports several carriers in Switzerland, so the signal was mostly stable during the trip. Plans start from 10GB for $8, with larger options like 20GB or 50GB and it also works in Austria and France. Overall, it worked pretty well for a ski trip. Food on the slopes is expensive but worth it once Had rösti and a giant hot chocolate at a mountain hut and it cost almost as much as dinner in some cities… but sitting in the sun looking at the Alps kind of makes it worth it. Book accommodation early for February This is peak ski season. Some places were fully booked weeks ahead. Overall, Switzerland was probably the most scenic place I’ve skied so far. Expensive, yes, but also ridiculously well organized. submitted by /u/allcompanymobiles
