Wanted to see the US-China AI funding picture in one place so I put a deck together. The short version: SF is brute-forcing it with mega-rounds. Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI alone accounted for a huge chunk of the $126B the Bay Area pulled in for AI. China’s private VC market is actually shrinking (down 45%) but the state just launched a $138B fund aimed at semiconductors, quantum, aerospace, and robotics. On the model side, the Six Tigers (DeepSeek, Moonshot, MiniMax, Zhipu, Baichuan, 01.AI) are pushing open-source models onto Azure, Bedrock, and Perplexity. The decoupling is real but the code keeps flowing across borders anyway. Used Runable to put the slides together since I wanted something more visual than a text post. Sources on the slides. What’s the more interesting dynamic here, the funding gap or the fact that open-source models are closing the performance gap regardless of funding? submitted by /u/Cool-Gur-6916
