For me, things that are not allowed: Sweat pants in public. Cotton or cotton and polyester. Typically fleeced and fuzzy inside. Pants or shorts that have belt loops and not wearing a belt. Shoes without socks. Hidden socks, like peds, are also disallowed. Socks should high enough to cover your ankles. In the gym, gym socks that are not white. T-shirts not tucked into your pants/shorts. T-shirts with text, pictures, logos, etc. on them. Black gym socks seems to have been something that came about later. For me the white gym socks is engraved in stone. Things that are allowed: Socks with sandals, e.g. Teva and Birkenstock. Rules for time travelers: If you go back to the 1970s, do not wear a leisure suit. submitted by /u/lumpynose
