Student has multi stance opinion on AI Amidst the outrage against an AI major being introduced to this heavily populated commuter school, a student posted these opinions. Is this a hypocritical or nonsensical? Student’s Post: “(I don’t major in AI and won’t, I just wanted to share a thought. Also I do not agree with Black Studies being removed but we all know it’s due to DEI and the POTUS…) I think you guys seeing the major being introduced and balking and pushing against it, are some of the same people who are completely in favor with sticking their heads in the sand and allowing jobs that have historically/culturally be done by humans to be taken by the evolution of AI. Yes the AI “bubble” will pop, but I’m faithful that it will extend only to its free-use components. See: Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, etc. I heavily doubt the bubble pop will affect AI’s use in medical, governmental, weather prediction and natural disasters predictions and even simple factory jobs. These are all jobs that SHOULD be occupied by HUMANS. FOREVER. (Down with clankers lmao) You do not have to like AI. You do not have to ignore AI’s damage on the ecosystem, or to independent creators. It’s the same way an atheist does not have to like religion. But you still have the ability to see the good in what it can do. In short, hate it all you want, it will never go away now it’s been introduced, only improved upon. Some of us need to have the know-how to be able to control the reins of AI… Also…the majority of arguments against the pure existence of AI are based around ethical arguments where, if we existed within an honorable society, would never have been a problem. (For example: people stealing art from independent artists to feed it to AI so now LLMs like ChatGPT are forever vomiting out yellow-stained generated images due to Ghibli stylized artists) I feel to shove a flag-stake in the sand and declare “I’m not only against AI, but it should not exist entirely!” Is completely belligerent and reminiscent of how generations previous to us came to realize they weren’t able to keep up with the tech as it was pushed out, so they stood against it entirely and ostracized it from their daily lives. (Color TVs, anything beyond PS2, Wii) AI has a ton of uses and I fear with such a high POC populous, we shouldn’t en masse be standing entirely against it as a humanity/ecosystem argument, and instead at least some of us should pursue understanding AI/LLMs/Gen AI to not only build and manage it, but to be able to make them ethical and un-abused tools just like a hammer one day” submitted by /u/Independent-Camp-520
