For context: I’ve just recently moved in with my single parent sister and my two nephews 12 & 17. I have no children of my own and find myself growing more in love with them and expressing that nurturing instinct more than ever. I’m tearing up right now just thinking about it because they could be drafted or life as they know it can change so much these days. Whew!🥹🥺🥹 As a result, I want to give them the best of all I have. My best effort. My best words I can think of. Great core memories and experiences. They are growing up in a world that is reforming (ambiguous social structures, rapidly declining survival odds, limited avenues for overt guidance). I’m hesitant to even talk about what they “should do” as a “man” in “the world” because, as far as my observations go, nobody freaking knows. While they are out there playing on hard mode, I need feel like I’m doing all I can, with them in mind so I’m here for a variety of perspectives from men both personal and universal to get a feel for what someone in my position could do or how I can enrich my current approach to feel better about how I’m caring for them around them. (Yep it’s mostly for me, but I sleep better knowing that I’ve done my best for my family so here I ammmm ☺️🙃🙂‍↕️.) Reading some of the varied experiences that many of you have gone through in this subreddit, there are definitely some material and invisible differences between male and female existence. Im not a guy. I’m just a doting auntie, who used to just spoil her nephews. Things feel different now. Like spoiling them is fine, but my actions need to have LOADS more purpose than just smiles from material things, playing games, and hugs. While love is essential, consideration, wisdom, and intelligence are what make love feel like love. The feeling and memory of love is the connection I’m aiming to strengthen with my nephews for when they find themselves in those places in life where it’s REALLY HARD TO REMEMBER why you need to live on and be strong. Again, a variety of perspectives and your personal experiences are wanted here! Thank you for your time and responses guys! submitted by /u/Practice_Cleaning
