There was a pretty bad mass shooting in Canada today. It made me pause. If it could happen there, it could happen anywhere. What is the source of such behavior? Mental illness, obviously, but underlying it is Nihilism. How could society let such a dangerous weapon fall in the hands of someone so deranged? It made me think of AI and the ‘accel at all costs’ mentality. That is pure Nihilism. It’s a morality born of a belief that change - any change - matters more than what happens to each other. The next time you delete or downvote a post because it shows concern about the welfare of others in the face of AI - take a moment to think about what happened in Tumbler Ridge, BC. Think about the Nihilism you are putting out in the world. submitted by /u/kaggleqrdl
