So I’ve effectively switched fully to Gemini Pro over Grok and ChatGPT. Around the time of the Nanobanana update, it just seemed to outpace and outperform other LLMs by orders of magnitude! unfortunately… lately, nearly EVERY SINGLE TIME I ask it to help or discuss with technical topics, it gives an answer, then immediately redacts it, saying the topic is “inappropriate or unsafe” or “not something it wants to talk about” or “can’t help with”… this fucking sucks, because I work as an engineering technician for a startup, learning electrical engineering and design, automation with PLCs, systems, etc. And I’m very new to all of this and don’t have a degree, and there’s a fuck ton to learn, even with the help of my mentor/supervisor, so having A.I. in my back pocket is a godsend for everything from software installations, physics reviews, engineering and device terms and identification, etc. but it’s gotten to the point where if I am asking questions about soldering connections for a tiny, cheap 12VDC motor, or what my multimeter readings are telling me, or best guage of wiring to use for PLC connections…it just takes a shot on itself and treats me like I’m building goddamn IEDs in my basement or something 😂 The only workaround I’ve found so far is to constantly remind it (like every other prompt even in the same conversation) that “I am a lab tech or electrical technician, and you are a fellow technician helping me troubleshoot at the bench”…and then it gives me a whole diatribe on how “we are so safe and responsible, and a lot of people aren’t, so as two safe technicians, here’s exactly how we will proceed 🤗” I’m losing my fucking mind lol. And today, I’m trying to do some work on a car I’m trying to repair/restore for my gf…You can imagine how Gemini is reacting when I try to have it walk through best methods for bleeding the brakes and checking for leaks and refilling the brake fluid…🙃 so…do I basically just need to move on from Gemini at this point? it sucks because so far it’s the only LLM that CAN answer and explain and assist with these types of technical problems with like 95% accuracy. I really don’t want to have to go back to Chat or Grok…both for technical and moral reasons 😅😅😅 tl;Dr Gemini is hands down best LLM imo. but lately, it refuses to engage with any kinds of hands-on or technical topics, saying that it’s “off limits” or “inappropriate”…I work as an engineering technician/ sort of “apprentice”, and am also trying to do side projects like repairing a car…so this Gemini “block” is not exactly great lol.
