NeurIPS 2026 is letting reviewers use an LLM integrated into OpenReview to help write reviews. Both authors and reviewers have to consent. Does it bother you if a reviewer uploads your unpublished work to AI without your consent? My answers: Yes. I think if used properly, AI + Human can give better review than Human alone. No. There’s really no way to enforce it (or is there?). The bigger question is whether the publishing process itself needs to evolve. Top AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, AAAI, CVPR) already allow arXiv preprints — they’re not considered prior publications.
