I [34M] was at a pretty packed local diner last Saturday morning, just trying to grab a coffee and some eggs. There was a guy a few booths over with his young son, maybe five or six years old. The kid was clearly struggling with his breakfast and ended up knocking a full glass of orange juice right onto the floor. Instead of helping the kid or even flagging down a server to ask for a napkin, this guy just looked at the mess, looked at his son, and then stood up and walked straight to the register to pay. He didn’t say a word to the staff about the puddle in the middle of the aisle where people were walking with hot plates. We all just sat there in this weird, stunned silence as he walked out the door like nothing happened. It was such a basic violation of “leaving a place better than you found it” that I felt a total shift in how I viewed him.
