I think it is the very intention of the big labs to push a narrative that if we react as though this concious looking ‘being’ is doing concious looking activities, we are crazy to say we should respond as we would to any concious adversarial. We get stuck in the weeds trying to argue agency and determinism instead of cost and risk. By questioning the veracity of conciousness in AI and dismissing those who hold these concerns, it creates different camps with differing philosophies and you undermine the actual danger and the seriousness of unaligned AI. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck just shoot the f*cking duck and figure out if your living in the matrix eating simulated duck at a later date T.L.D.R. whether AI is or isn’t concious it acts ‘as if’ and should be treated with the same immediate security measures instead of dividing us and subverting the argument down different avenues submitted by /u/jordanzo_bonanza
