By default the Claude Code icon appears in editor pane in VS Code which I don’t like and I wanted to add the icon to activity bar (side bar) where normally extensions appear after installing. If you’re like me, here is a native guide how to put the extension’s icon to activity bar: Close existing Claude Code tabs/windows. Open Extensions in activity bar (Ctrl + Shift + X) and find Claude Code extension Click the Manage icon (looks like Settings icon) Select Settings (this will open settings of Claude Code extension tab) Find "Claude Code: Preferred Location " and choose “sidebar” Click the Claude Code icon in editor pane to open Claude Code, this will now open in the side bar Now, drag & drop the icon of Claude Code in the sidebar, and drop in into Activity Bar Now you successfully added Claude Code icon into Activity Bar and you can remove it from Editor pane. submitted by /u/prodbylcsh
