Like saying things… “they are like this while people from your generation (and mine) understand that there are actually these and these issues, etc…” Like all of a sudden playing a role of another human from your generation. Or “we should try to understand why are they saying things like that, even if people like you (and me) look at the things from a different perspective”. I am usually not too bothered by this… I try to maintain suspension of disbelief, but it does feel a bit weird. I’m wondering if this constitutes misalignment or not? I think it’s not the same as sycophancy. Sycophancy is simply praise. But what I’m talking about is identifying with you, or people like you, or your generation, and assuming a role of a pal who gets you and talking about itself as if they were a human. I don’t have anything against it. I think it’s innocuous. I just find it kind of weird. submitted by /u/zjovicic
