I’m not sure what the best way is to answer when your boss or a higher-up asks you something like this. I work in the social field, I’m still in my trial period, so I’m kind of in a learning phase. I usually take a bit more time than others to fully adapt and feel comfortable in a new job, so the beginning hasn’t been perfect. I’ve made a few mistakes and sometimes I worry that I can come across as a bit clumsy or too direct. I feel like they’re asking for my honest opinion about how I’m doing and how things are going overall. The problem is, I don’t know what the smartest answer is. If I say “everything is going well” but they’ve heard some negative feedback, it could put me in a bad position. But if I start pointing out my mistakes or weaknesses, I feel like I might be underselling myself or hurting my image. At the same time, I do feel like I’m improving and trying to do better. I just don’t really know how I’m being perceived overall. People I work with seem kind and supportive, but I have no idea what kind of feedback they might be giving behind my back. So I’m stuck between saying “everything is fine” (which might not be true) or being too honest and focusing too much on my flaws. What would be the best way to answer this kind of question in a professional and smart way? submitted by /u/Foreign_Swimming_431
