Now this is just speculation based on my experience but I have a main (max) and backup (pro) accounts. Working on the same project I hit my weekly limit yesterday on Max, and leading up to that Opus 4.6 (Max Effort) was clearly lobotomized. I even ran through some of the free credits (around $40 worth) and it was no better (and the burn rate was insane). I then decided to swap to my pro account (which I hadn’t used in a week or two) - instantly better response on Opus 4.6 Max (the actual Opus we know). However, I did hit my 5-hour limits pretty quickly. Running through some of the free API credits the burn rate has been around 1/3-1/2 as on my main account. I saw another post where it appears after 20-50% usage (the AI support bot let the cat out the bag) your model gets downgraded/quantised. I can certainly (from my experience) attest to this possibly being the case (as well as increased token burn once you become a heavy user). On my max account Opus kept referring to itself as Opus directly “I am Opus, etc” (which is an odd quirk - almost like another model pretending to be Opus - since usually it says it is Claude). Something suspicious is going on (since this can’t be local - as I am using the same folder /.claude/ folders / jsons / .md / claudecode version etc), so has to be at the server/remote level. P.s. —. Got to get my em-dash tax in so you think I am an AI post! submitted by /u/pseudorep
