I had an absolutely surreal experience yesterday morning and I need to vent. I arrived at a restaurant in lausanne around 11:30 AM and asked to be seated on the terrace for a coffee. The waiter was perfectly fine with it and sat me at a nice table in the shade. My friend joined me around 11:50 AM, and since neither of us was hungry, we both ordered a cappuccino. Exactly five minutes after our drinks arrived, a waitress approached us with an incredibly hostile tone. She told us point-blank that we were occupying the best seat in the house because it was shaded while the sun was hitting the other tables. She then demanded that we give up the table for potential lunch customers who might arrive soon, claiming they were “priority.” I find this behavior absolutely unacceptable. If a legal establishment doesn’t want “coffee-only” customers during the transition to lunch, they should state that clearly at the entrance or simply refuse to seat me at 11:30 AM. Getting kicked out while my drink is still steaming just because I didn’t order a full three-course meal is the absolute lowest level of customer service I’ve ever encountered. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of elitism lately, or am I overreacting? How would you have handled being told you were “lesser” than a customer who hasn’t even shown up yet? submitted by /u/Tocico28
