I had a completely surreal experience yesterday morning and I need to vent. I arrived at a restaurant around 11:30 AM and asked for a table on the terrace to have a coffee. The waiter didn’t see an issue and sat me at a nice table in the shade. My friend joined me around 11:50 AM, and since neither of us was hungry, we just ordered two cappuccinos. Barely five minutes after our drinks were served, a waitress approached us with an incredibly hostile tone. She told us point-blank that we were occupying the best spot in the establishment because it was shaded while the sun was hitting the other tables. She then informed us that we would “very soon need to move” to a much less desirable table to give priority to lunch customers. I find this behavior absolutely unacceptable. If a restaurant doesn’t want people using their “good” tables for just a coffee as lunch approaches, they should state that clearly at the door or simply refuse to seat me at 11:30 AM. Pressuring us to move while our drinks are still steaming, just to save space for “priority” customers who haven’t even shown up yet, is the absolute lowest level of hospitality. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of treatment lately? How would you have reacted if you were told you were essentially a “second-class” customer? submitted by /u/Tocico28
