My sex ed class was around 20 years ago so idk if it’s changed by now, but why didn’t it include literally ANY information about HSV-1 and HSV-2??? When they are so fucking common??? I had my first HSV-1 outbreak at around 7 years old and for years everyone said it’s just cold sores. Guess what? Cold sores are caused by HSV-1!!! When I learned about it by accident as a late teenager I was mortified because while I never made out with anyone while in an active outbreak, I didn’t know it was an actual virus that I can give on to people even when not in an active outbreak. So I might’ve given it to a handful of people without knowing I even had anything I could’ve passed on. I feel terrible about it even to this day. Also how did I only learn TWO YEARS AGO that it can be fatal for newborns if someone with HSV-1 (active OR inactive) kisses them??? How is this not more common news??? I know sex ed in Switzerland, at least used to be, generally lacking (again, idk what it’s like today) but this is really important information that literally everybody should know??? submitted by /u/Dense_Strength_4281
