Senior FE dev here. I’ve been selling websites to small businesses on the side for a while now and the shift over the past year or two has been wild. AI hasn’t killed the job, anything with real complexity still needs an actual engineer, but for the bread and butter small business stuff? The coding part is basically a non-issue now. Which sounds great until you realize what that actually means. The work didn’t disappear, it just moved. I used to spend most of my time building. Now I spend most of it prospecting, cold outreach, follow ups, calls. The actual site takes me an afternoon. Finding someone willing to pay for it takes me a days-weeks. Honestly starting to feel less like a dev job and more like being a sales guy. Not complaining, the money is better than ever, but it’s a weird shift mentally. Anyone else feeling the same? How are you finding clients these days, because that’s genuinely the only hard part left for me. submitted by /u/RipGeneral3953
