Seeing all the “I switched to codex” posts. the top comment on the 20x cap thread is literally “tried codex and within 30 minutes cancelled my 20x plan.” I get it. Codex gives you roughly 2x the tasks per dollar right now. the limits are more generous. it feels like what claude was 3 months ago. But that’s exactly what claude was 3 months ago. Generous limits to acquire users, then steady compression once you’re locked in. OpenAI’s codex limits have already been cut at least 5 times in april according to the codex sub. two months ago people were writing 10-20k lines per session on codex. now they’re posting “session limits are now absurd.” Sound familiar? The pattern is identical: launch with generous subsidy to pull users from competitor users build workflows around the tool quietly compress limits month over month users complain but are too invested to switch introduce higher tier ($200/mo) as the “solution” Both anthropic and openai are running the same playbook. switching from one to the other is just resetting the compression clock. The actual escape is API with routing. you control the spend, you pick the model per task, nobody silently reduces your allocation. don’t lock yourself in to a single provider before it becomes too late! submitted by /u/spencer_kw
