Hi, I’m currently in Switzerland with an N permit (asylum seeker) and working legally. Before this, I studied in Switzerland for 2 years with a B student permit and completed an M.Sc degree. After finishing my studies, I applied for asylum and now have an N permit. I started working in January 2026 and I received social assistance for about 5 months, but I stopped it once I got my job. Since then, I’ve been working continuously, paying AHV/ALV and taxes, and I plan to stay fully financially independent. I’m also learning German and plan to get an A2/B1 certificate. I’ve heard that to apply for B work permit (hardship case / Härtefall) usually need around 2 years of continuous work, no social assistance for 2 years, and basic language skills. In my case, would January 2028 be a realistic first time to apply for a B permit, and has anyone here gone from N to B with a similar situation? submitted by /u/OridaGriffin
