We had typical inflation with the prices increasing. Like other countries, we probably experienced shrinkflation with brands replacing their usual products with similar ones but with lower quantities for the same price, although personally I haven’t noticed it a lot in Switzerland. What I have noticed ultimately is skimpflation, a general term I had to look for that means that the quality of products is lower for the same price. It can be a brand replacing their list of ingredients for lower quality ones, supermarkets going for the cheaper options and also supermarkets selling expired or soon to be expired food. I’ve noticed a huge difference in the last months on the last point, I used to not look at the best consumed before date at all but now I have to and I’m shocked. In the big supermarkets, they now regularly sell products that are past their best before date, and without any price reduction. I’ve also noticed a decrease in quality in fresh products. Am I alone in this or have you had similar experiences? submitted by /u/alfredo_orecchiette
