A real agent needs autonomy, planning, and actual tool use. If your “agent” just searches a PDF, summarizes it, and spits it back to a chat UI… that’s just RAG with a fancy name. If it can read an incoming email, decide to query a database using standardized tool-calling like the Model Context Protocol (MCP), draft a response, and execute a state change… that is Agentic AI. We are finally moving from “guessing machines” to systems that can securely interact with external APIs. The bottleneck isn’t the LLM reasoning anymore; it’s how well we define the tools they are allowed to use.
