I work in a school system. Sometimes they let school out early due to weather. They let my office go usually after the last school releases. They tell us to not clock out and just credit anyone who was there that morning with a full day. They never give a specific time until the last minute. By that time, people who have kids to pick up have already left. However, they don’t have to use any leave. So there’s a group of people who get to leave even earlier, paid with no consequence and a group of people who have to stay until officially released, same pay. I feel like this is a borderline legal issue. Yet my coworkers freaked out about me deciding to leave early and considering asking for clarity, because they expect the director will just make things worse for parents. The way I see it is they are already benefitting from an unfair system. Naturally the parents are all on the page of “don’t rock the boat and make things worse,” but the other coworkers in my boat also seem to think it’s just fine and don’t care that they have to stay longer for the same pay. But it bothers the hell out of me. I shouldn’t be punished for not having kids. submitted by /u/technophoriac
