China is positioned to ultimately clinch the lead in the AI race. There are three critical pillars that are necessary in order to achieve critical mass where AI development grows into an exponential self-sustaining momentum. First, you need world-class cloud and energy infrastructure. Although the U.S. dwarfs anyone else, China not only has more compute, but it has a lot more energy capacity and a higher potential into growing that capacity at a much lower cost. China being a structurally deflationary economy and with its government assets far surpassing its national debt, it can afford to turn on the spigot of cash. Second, you need a large talent pipeline. Not only does China have one of the largest population on earth, but it also has one of the largest educated workforce. The more interesting fact is that even your average Chinese student has a much higher proficiency in mathematics than your average American student. Third, you need data sovereignty and access to a large amount of data. China not only has access to a large quantity of data, but it also has the structural ability to harvest and label it at scale. In contrast, there are a lot of sectors where data is siloed by strict privacy laws. submitted by /u/LargeSinkholesInNYC
