Don’t be too rough on me. 6 months ago I had never touched code in my life. Today, I spend every free moment I have in it. Currently, I run more than a dozen decent sites – the content might be mid, but the security isn’t: Vercel, Next.js with nonce-based CSP, SRI, Sentry, Posthog, Redis, Qstash, Axoim, Pino, CSRF + a shared custom antibot directory that auto feeds custom rules into WAF with CI/CD and anti fingerprinting discipline – built via a turbo mono repo. The lighthouse scores are near universally 100 across the board. But the actual traffic sucks. I don’t complain too much because the only thing I actually pay for are the domains. For unrelated reasons, I built an ultra-local SQLite identify graph database, with millions of people (addresses, phone numbers, emails, assets, court records, marriage records, voting records, family linkage, political donations, jury duty history, 25 years of appraisal data, etc.). Coverage, of course, varies widely across specific category of data (email collection low, cell numbers and property data, including mortgage data and deed history high). I’ve dicked around a bit in AWS, Snowflake, and Mixpanel – but the data I really want to add (MAID data) costs real money and after Zooms with half a dozen of the vendors who actually sell it, might be a bridge too far, ethically. Based on my admittedly limited understanding, my scraper fleet is at least decent (scraping Cloudflare + Datadome sites without issue), but I feel like I’m still a noob at it. Just found Kali/CSI Linux last night and am looking forward to banging my scrapers off of them hard tonight and seeing just how clean the JA4s are. My questions to all you actual code geniuses gliding the halls of FAANG: how do I make a dollar off this shit? My degrees weren’t in real subjects like CS or STEM. I have no certifications. I do okay with my real job but I’m bored as shit with it and I feel like the is the most exciting technology of my lifetime. Any thoughts / suggestions / feedback / smug costal elite backhandedness welcome. submitted by /u/txdesperado
