I’ve been traveling a lot for work and I’ve been thinking about this lately. Whenever I’m meeting someone in a non work setting I sometimes say “hey man” or “how have you been dude?” to men. But most of all, in work and non-work settings I say “hey, how’s life been treating you lately?” to nearly everyone, men, women, clients, coworkers, whoever. When I’m getting off the phone with someone 99% of the time I say “alright, catch up with you later”. Whenever I get into an elevator with strangers I’ll say things more proper like “Hey, how’s your day going?” But whenever I’m getting off an elevator, even if no one has said a word at all, I turn to other people and say “have a good one” 100% of the time. When someone is telling me about something good that happened to them, no matter how large or how small, like “my kid is graduating college next week” or “I got a full refund on that TV I returned” I find my self usually saying “ah, it’s a beautiful thing”. Whenever I’m leaving somewhere like a restaurant or getting off a plane and some employee says something like “have a good day and thanks for coming!” I usually say “missing you already!” Which always gets a laugh out of someone. Whenever some employee says to me “have a nice day!” I respond “ok, I’ll try” in a joking sad voice which usually gets a laugh as well. Just some self reflection on my random, unimportant, daily conversations with society, so how do your conversations go? submitted by /u/gamerdudeNYC
