Hi everyone, I’m currently working in Switzerland, but my official residency is still in Austria. For now, I was registered through the Swiss notification procedure to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy at the beginning. I have a “Meldebestätigung für den Stellenantritt bei einem Arbeitgeber in der Schweiz” , valid from 06.05.2026 to 03.08.2026 . However, there is a possibility that I may stay and work longer, because my employment contract itself is open-ended / indefinite . So I’m trying to choose a banking setup that works both for the short term and, if possible, for a longer stay. I have an Italian passport . At the moment, I have: Austrian Erste Bank account Wise account Italian passport Swiss work notification/confirmation document Unbefristeter Arbeitsvertrag I tried to open a Yuh account, but the app says that account opening for Austrian residents is temporarily limited, so I can’t open it right now. My employer has already accepted my Austrian Erste Bank IBAN, but I believe my salary will be paid in CHF . I’m worried about losing money through CHF → EUR conversion, incoming transfer fees, and card fees if I use my Austrian EUR account in Switzerland. My expected usage: Receive salary, probably in CHF Pay mostly with Apple Pay/contactless in physical stores Transfer money to my Austrian bank around 1–2 times per month Possibly deposit cash maximum 1–2 times per month What would be the best option in this situation? My main goal is to keep things simple and avoid unnecessary fees or bad exchange rates. Thanks in advance for any practical advice. submitted by /u/Other_Midnight_9939
