Last year, I got fired. I was working in a local Swiss school. The termination came immediately after a 6 week sick leave, which came about due to an endometriosis diagnosis that had impacted my entire life, and was only found last year, as I reached almost 40 years old. The process went through the Schlichtungskommission. The termination was found to be unlawful. The Stadtrat tried to place a gag order and claimed it was lawful and that the Schlichtungskommission was biased towards me. I refused to accept their terms and eventually received a small compensation, but as is Swiss law, I did not get my job back. I did, however, ‘win’. This was in December and I hoped things would start looking up again. Prior to the termination, I had sent my application in for a C Permit, which was cancelled by the Gemeinde due to my unemployment status. My B permit ended in January, and instead of receiving a 5 year renewal when one is employed, my new permit only lasts as long as my RAV does, so it has only been extended until October 2027 (interestingly, a 5 year B permit costs exactly the same as a 1 year and 10 month B permit, but I am sure there many people who would defend that, so I’m just mentioning it as an aside). I have B1 German, and am aiming for B2 so I can get my teaching qualification recognised by EDK. I have lived in Switzerland for over 10 years. I have worked the entire time I have lived here. But now, I just cannot find a job. I’ve been applying for 8 a month since August 2025. I thought my experience teaching in Swiss schools would be a positive on my CV, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The irony is, my cats have Swiss pet passports, and if I’m unable to find a job, I wouldn’t be able to stay in the country I’ve called home for ten years. submitted by /u/No-Idea3713
