Most of the discussions about the SRG-Initiativ are whether the SRG is doing a good job or not, whether it should be protected or defunded. But honestly, the text itself is pretty stupid. Why? Because the famous “200 franks”, the exact value to be billed every year, would be written in the Constitution . That is, in the text that is all about fundamentals and not about details, and that is by design quite hard to change. Any change in the Constitution means a popular vote with double-majority. So everytime someone wants to change these 200 franks, we’d all have to vote. Was there inflation over the years? The 200 franks are now worth less and are reducing the budget of the SRG and we want to adapt it to inflation? Everyone to the polls, let’s spend tens of millions every time we want to adapt to inflation. Did the SRG go bankrupt, or did it cease to exist? Well you still have to pay 200 franks because the Constitution says so, until we go through the years-long process of organising a vote to change that. This is an aspect that is completely ignored in all discussions and I find it baffling. Am I wrong to think so? submitted by /u/Milleuros
