Title says it all, but to restate: at what age and why did you stop drinking every day? Was it a personal thing, a health thing, or did your partner or family ask you to stop, or another reason? submitted by /u/y00sh420

I stopped at 23. I was killing myself with upwards of 750-1000ml of vodka every day. On an average low use day I was still nearing that 750ml mark. I was nearly declined a bed at detox until they did a urinalysis where they found extremely high levels of alcohol metabolites and signs of liver damage. They immediately gave me intake and held me for six days on a steady diet of valium, clonidine, and decent food. The nightmares were terrifying and the sleep was horrible, I must have been close to drowning in my sweat. I no longer drink.
