So, as a gay man, the concept of “flashing” is a lot looser to me than, say, a straight woman. Most gay men don’t care about seeing another man’s penis, in my experience. I guess that’s probably because of cruising culture, but also because we don’t feel like we’re in any danger of serious harm simply because a penis is out. There’s even a whole subgenre of porn centered around flashing, like delivery flashes, jerking in taxis and ubers, etc. Some of it is obviously staged, while others are obviously not. Fact is, though, it doesn’t seem like the men in these situations are particularly affected by it. They don’t freak out. They don’t feel like they have to run away. The delivery driver is either amused, aroused, or maybe uncomfortable, but not visibly upset. Same for the taxi videos. Of course, consent questions come up, but that gets murky when no actual contact is made. And given that many men have been socialized to be more open to male nudity, like in locker room situations and some casual situations, I’m wondering what y’all think?
