I will go first here I think the thing that actually shapes who you become more than people give it credit for is being in the room with people older and more experienced than you. I have been on both sides of it now, and I can tell you honestly that a big chunk of the wins that eventually come down to one move, being hungry enough to get into a room like that and grateful enough to stay in it. It is completely fine to be the youngest one in there, sometimes the dumbest one in there, and not flinch about it, because that is exactly where the real edge you actually need shows up. The other thing that sits right next to it for me is the quality of staying humble, continuing to learn, putting yourself in front of the right minds as early as possible, and actually staying in touch with people rather than treating it as a tactic. That quality keeps pulling you forward on its own, because without it even real talent eventually hits its own limits. This is what I notice at my own age, and I suspect it applies at any age, I just have not lived long enough to confirm that. High IQ, dedication, vision, mentorship, low ego, that is probably the most powerful combination, and anyone is welcome to add to it. But the most valuable part is not the components themselves, it is acting on them while it still counts, because most people hear tips they either don’t take or take too late. submitted by /u/ydevi
