be careful with claude code /fast mode. i’m on max 5x. i tested /fast on two requests yesterday. my usage credits cap was set to $20. auto-reload was off. after those two requests, usage credits showed $74.49 spent , which is 372% of the cap, with a negative balance of $56.49. i know /fast uses usage credits directly. the issue is that the $20 cap did not stop the spend anywhere near $20. my normal max plan usage was not exhausted either. all models weekly usage was around 29%. support/refund/email all routed to fin ai agent, which kept treating this as a subscription refund request instead of a usage credits cap enforcement issue. so yeah, if you’re testing /fast, don’t assume auto-reload off or a monthly cap will protect you from going negative. turn off usage credits entirely if you don’t want to risk it. btw, i saw in another thread that anthropic apparently didn’t charge someone for the negative balance on the next billing cycle. has anyone else run into this? did they actually charge you later, or did the negative balance just get cleared? submitted by /u/Livonian_Order
