Hey everyone, When I moved to Switzerland, I was pretty excited about the salaries. Like many people, I thought the money would go a long way and I’d finally be able to save properly. But after almost a year, reality hit hard. Between rent, health insurance, groceries, and everything else, there was way less left at the end of the month than I expected. It took me a long time of tracking my expenses closely to really understand where my money was going. Now, after making some adjustments, I’m able to save around 18% of my net salary each month without feeling like I’m living like a monk. A few things that surprised me the most: How much difference there is in costs between different cantons and cities. How small daily choices (especially shopping and transport) can add up to hundreds of francs. The real impact of health insurance on your budget I’d love to hear from those of you who have been here longer:What has been your biggest surprise with the cost of living here? What’s one change you made that actually helped you save money? Feel free to share in the comments. If anyone wants to exchange experiences in more detail or see how I track my expenses, just send me a private message. Looking forward to your replies! submitted by /u/Particular-Ear-5066
